Arfa Karim Gold Medal Awarded to Dr. Sunny

Arfa Karim Gold Medal Awarded to Dr. Sunny

In the annual prize distribution ceremony of City Star School, Dr. Sunny was awarded Arfa Karim Gold Medal in the acknowledgement of his services to humanity. In his speech, Dr. Munawar Fayyaz Sunny discussed about pre-addictive behaviors and role of parents and teachers in drug abuse prevention. This was awarded in the name of renowned Arfa Karim, who was a Pakistani student and computer prodigy who became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in 2004. She was submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records for her achievement. Arfa kept the title until 2008 and went on to represent Pakistan on various international forums, including the TechEd Developers Conference. She received the President's Award for Pride of Performance by President of Pakistan in 2005. A science park in Lahore, the Arfa Software Technology Park, was named in her honor. When she was 10, Arfa was invited by Bill Gates to visit the Microsoft headquarters in the United States. She died on 14 January 2012, aged 16, from a cardiac arrest.
